Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) movie review

Cast:   Elizabeth Olsen, Sarah Paulson, John Hawkes & Hugh Dancy
Director and Writer: Sean Durkin
Running Time:

The movie is about girl named Martha, who is called by two other names Marcy May and Marlene showed in her past memories. The plot shows  young woman Martha suffering from delusions and paranoia after returning back to her family which involves a sister (Lucy) from an abusive cult in the Catskill Mountains. And shows how her past memories is still haunting her that affects the life of her sister who cares her very much and sister's husband.

As the story moves the past memories from the cult haunts Martha's mind which is showed in flashback very impressively. At starting these memories seems like her past but as the movie goes ahead slowly this thing doesn't concern you neither writer of the movie. And you kept guessing that was the memories are from past or just a imagination of mind. But i think it was from the past.

There are many scenes in the movie which leaves you wanting more and the movie shows no answers to such thing that why did this happened.

There is a open ending in the movie which is on your interpretation. But Yeah the screenplay and story are the unusual and more realistic.

The performance of Elizabeth Olsen is one thing to look out in this movie, which makes the scenes and movie more realistic just then the work of imagination. And this all keeps with you after the movie finishes. I think thats the sole purpose of making this kind of movie.

If you likes to see something really unusual on screen then this is a good watch for you, otherwise this one will leave you disappointed, tiresome, wanting more glimpse of her past and more from the climax.

BOL(2011) movie review

Cast: Humaima Malik, Manzar Sehbai, Atif Aslam, Iman Ali, Mahira Khan
Direction: Shoaib Mansoor
Genre: Drama, Crime
Running Time: 2 hours 25 minutes

The first and best words for BOL movie are brave and sincere. This film exposes the situation of women in PAKISTAN and of course which is not very different for our country INDIA. This movie also tells how Male dominated society’s wrong use of religion is going against women.

The plot is that a HAKEEM, whose wish to have a son doesn’t end up after having 7 daughters and finally he gets a son who is actually a ‘girl’ who look like a ‘boy’. One among these sisters ZAINUB is rebellious who has courage to speak against his father ‘HAKEEM’ acts, another one AYESHA loves her neighbour whose character is played by Atif Aslam. After this the movie shows the struggle of AYESHA for her love, ZUNAIB her mother and all the sisters against their father’s acts which led them to poverty and how the 8th ‘son’ struggles to get along with this world.

With the length of 2 hours and 25 minutes there is slow pace in the movie at some moments after interval that can make you feel tire but finally it all proves worth a wait till the climax. All the performances are remarkable especially of Humaima Malik( ZUNAIB) and her father Manzar Sehbai(HAKEEM).

This movie is another brave attempt from Shoaib Mansoor(the director of the ‘Khuda Ke Liye’). And he successfully delivers a message not just for Pakistani society but for Indian too. Watch it as soon as you can!
