Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 (2012) Review

Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 keeps the legacy of Khan family alive. And give audience more heavy dose of entertainment and violence than the Part 1. Whereas Part 1 was more indulged in character development through their act, this Part 2 is more involved in action. Because of the lesser new characters the director and writer gets more time to show the characters actions & acts through different perceptive.

Part 2 just continues from the end of the Part 1 and as the story follows we sees the vengeance getting new levels. First Danish Khan been killed by Fazlu (friend of Faisal Khan) and Sultan. Now, the revenge goes shifts to the Faisal Khan who takes up this on himself after his mother scolds him for not doing anything other than smoking gaanja this is the first time, when he delivers the dialogues in anger and pain that, "baap ka, dada ka, bhai ka sabka badla lega re tera faisal". From this scene a new Faisal borns. Later in the movie we gets to know that this isn't that path that he wants to follow in his life. Through out the movie Faisal Khan is stubborn about his motive. Faisal Khan has got his father's blood, he also kills his enemies in same stylish manner like when he founds the killer of his brother Danish, he gives him, his glasses and then cut- off all hairs makes him bald and then says before shooting him, "tu toh shaka lag reha hai". Such scenes makes the movie different from other gangs type of movies.

The new characters in the movie are Perpendicular, Definite & Shamshad. All of them is played very well and effectively by newcomers Aditya Kumar, Zeishan Qadari and LSD famous Raj Kumar Yadav. Perpendicular is a wannabe gangster and he uses his brother name to do illegal works like dacoity. On the other side, Definite plays a prime role in Faisal Khan's occupations.

There are numerous scenes in the movie which will be in memory forever like the satirical comment of Ramadhir Singh on 'Cinema'. Cinema is used as a medium to reflect emotions in the movie different times, this is very remarkable and exceptional way to draw situation.

On the whole Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 is wholesome entertainment with full action as it promised. And we have got another remarkable character Faisal Khan which will be as immortal as Sardar Khan in our memories.

My Rating - 8/10

Gangs Of Wasseypur Part 1 (2012) Movie Review

    Director - Anurag Kahsyap
Writer   -  Anurag Kashyap, Akhilesh, Sachin Ladia, Syed Zeeshan Qadari
Cast      -  Manoj Bajpai, Tighmashu Dhulia, Nawazuddin, Hama Qureshi, Reema Sen, Richa Chadda
    Running Time - 2 Hours 40 Minutes

Gangs Of Wasseypur is Anurag Kashyap's first big budget and most ambitious movie compared to his all previous movies. And I can effortlessly say that, he has done it this time by maintaining a good balance between the kind of movie, he wants to make and commercial cinema that earns box office.

Gangs Of Wasseypur is the revenge story that spans through almost 50 years from pre- independence 1941 to 1990, which also shows three generations. Pre- independence, Shahid Khan (played by Jaydeep Ahlawat) loots the train by using the identity of in- famous dacoit Sultana. Sultana, who lives in same village called Wasseypur, where Shahid lives gets furious by his actions. One day, Sultana attacks the gangs of Shahid, while he was on the way to another train loot. Somehow Shahid gets saved and outcasts from Wasseypur after this. Then, he moves to Dhanbad and works as a labour in coal mines. Ramadhir Singh (played by Tighmanshu Dhulia) is the ambitious Coal mine owner, he uses Shahid to persuade labour by using power and his impression. Shahid has different motive against Randhir Singh and so, he goes killed. When Shahid's son Sardar Khan (played by Manoj Bajpai) grows, he has only motive of his life which is revenge.

Everything is this movie story/screenplay, narrative, cinematography, music and editing is near perfect. The movie is full of dialogue- baaji and that works amazingly. Apart from action s'd better say mara-kati there are many scenes that are laugh- riot. The movie casting is outstanding and completely perfect. Everyone does their job very impressively and no one overshadows anyone. Even, someone in a small role does it remarkably. It is Manoj Bajpai another career best performance, every time he comes up in such roles in Gangs & Political movies, it seems that it is his career's best performance and then he gives more best in his next movie. According to me, his last were, Rajneeti (2010) and 1971 (2007). Tighmashu Dhulia in his first movie as actor is as perfect at acting as he is at direction. Nawazuddin Siddique plays the son of Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpai), it is his 3rd movie released this year and surely, he is next best thing among Hindi Cinema's actors. Not to say much about him, as all of you must have seen him as Gopi in Paan Singh Tomar and as Khan in Kahani this year.

Gangs of Wassyepur has the rigor and poise of coil mafia, change in social and political situation at pre and post independece times. Sneha Khanwalkar's music adds more charm to the movie. Every song looks fits to every situation, wherever the songs is played.

At last, if there is one word that could sum up this whole movie that must be, epic!! And I bet you will come out of theatre asking the question, "When will be Part 2 is gonna release?"

My Rating - 9 / 10

P.S - Don't leave the theatre until the end credit rolls because there is the trailer of GOW Part 2 is waiting to be played.

Ishaqzaade (2012) Movie Review

Director - Habib Faisal
Writer -    Habib Faisal
Running Time - 2 Hours
Cast -  Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Gauhar Khan
Release Date -  11 May

ISHAQZAADE is a cliched tell of love set in a fictional UP town. Parma (played by debutant Arjun Kapoor) is the Grandson of Chauhan, a political leader who is contesting for MLA election & have close competition from Aftab Quereshi. Quereshi daughter is Zoya (played by Parineeti Chopra), who goes to same college where Parma does. While campaigning for their respective parties, they cross each others path. After this there is a easy predictable love affair between them and the story unfolds as they struggles for their love against each others families.

But no, everything is not what you are predicting or guessing about the story. There is some good twist, turns and good races which won't let the movie goes down beside a old story.

This is Habib Faisal's (director, whose previous one was a National Award winning Do Dooni Chaar) second movie. He is more known for his witty and humorous dialogues in his movies as a dir. and writer. Here also, he gets success in this showing traditional dialogues in nontraditional ways.

There are some portion that are predictable. Movie is still very clear about its story or what it want to tell which is a love story against all odds of society, religion and politics. The chemistry between Parma and Zoya is very striking and passionate. Arjun Kapoor is looks impressive in his first movie. As everyone was expecting or to better say believing Parineeti does an charismatic acting. Special mention to Gauhar Khan (you may remember her from her last movie Rocket Singh where she played receptionist) for her small yet important role, she should get bigger roles now.

Watch this movie for two reasons, Amit Trivedi's music that is also choreographed very well and chemistry between Parma and Zoya. You won't regret it.

Vicky Donor (2012) Movie Review

Director - Shoojit Sircar
Writer - Juhi Chaturvedi
Running Time - 2 hours 5 Minutes
Cast - Ayushmann Khurana, Annu Kapoor, Yami Gautam
Release Date - 20 April

Vicky Arora (Ayushmann) is a unemployed Punjabi boy from Lajpat Nagar, is the only son of Dolly, a widow, who runs a small beauty parlor from home. Then through a small incident Dr. Baldev Chaddha (Annu Kapoor) who runs a fertility clinic and a sperm bank that guarantees the quality sperm, notices him. After being approached by Dr. Chaddha for many times finally Vicky agrees to donate his sperm for money. By this way Vicky gets money for managing his good lifestyle and to shut the mouth of his mother, without telling them about this. Then a girl Ashima Roy (played by Yami Gautam) comes into his life. After this the story follows how the situation occurs drastically when she knows about his profession.

In this all of sequences movie never lets viewer to let down or bore just for a second, thanks to the amazing well- crafted story and witty dialogue which are not new but here is the different situation called 'sperms' which turns them into great laughable moments for us.

After the intermission the story seems a little inclined to the cause, but the Director Shoojit Sircar never lets the fun- factor of the movie down against to issue. Director and Writer Juhi Chaturvedi impressively do what they wanted to, not to focus much and not to deter much from the cause so that it becomes a social movie or a madcap entertainer.

It is the second Hindi Movie that uses 'sperm donation' cause as story. The first one was from one of the four stories of movie 'I Am' last year. Its a very good sign from the Producer of the movie John Abraham that he choose a very different central idea for his first movie as a producer.

Ayushmann does a decent job as the sperm donor in his first movie. Yami Gautam looks beautiful and plays her role very well. The best things about the movie was the characters of Dr. Chaddha and the grand-mother of Vicky. Annu Kapoor does a great job, he has a great comic timing like he did in his last movie '7 khoon maaf' and fulfills what he promises in trailers.

"Vicky Donor" is a fantastic comedy film featuring an unforgettable performance from Annu Kapoor. You will love this movie for sure.

Agent Vinod (2012) Movie Review

Director - Sriram Raghavan
Writer - Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas
Genre - Action, Crime, Mystery
Run Time - 162 Minutes
Release Date - 23 March

I found Agent Vinod a good, skillful  action movie but only in aspect of Bollywood. The entire story is about chases and action.

A RAW agent Vinod ( Saif Ali Khan) is on hunt to solve a mystery of a secret code that is related to some big planning of terrorists attack. The movie starts in dusty terrain as Vinod rescues himself and his RAW partner from Pakistani Army, which was very impressive start of the movie. And is the hunt of terrorist to solve the mystery he later goes to St.Petersburg, Morocco, Turkey and Pakistan. Among these ways he meets Dr. Iram Parveen Bilal (Kareena Kapur), whom Vinod supposes a ISI agent, through a different identity.

Yes, this movie looks similar to other spy/action movies like Bond Series and Bourne Series but it goes to nowhere close to them i think because of a little confusing plot and chemistry between Vinod and Dr. Bilal which was unnecessary for a spy movie.

Saif does his job very impressively, he looks real. Kareena is looking just opposite to Saif who is in full form in the movie. The action sequences turned out to be very good. Most important, the way movie shot it remind me last best spy movie that came to screen MI 4, cinematography is very greatly done.

It was a decent attempt which could be great from the director who gave us two very good movies Ek Haseena Thi and Johny Gaddar. I enjoyed and liked it may be because i can't recall any Bollywood spy/action movie that was even close to average.

Paan Singh Tomar (2012) Movie Review

Genre - Biography,  Crime, Drama, Sports
Star Cast - Irrfan Khan, Mahi Gill, Vipin Sharma, Imran Hasnee, Nawazuddin, Zakir Hussain
Run Time - 2 hours 15 minutes
Release Date - 2 March 2012

Paan Singh Tomar is one of those rare biopic movie that are thought-provoking, moving & uplifting as well without deterring form its central protagonist.

This movie is about the life of a athlete turned dacoit named PAAN SINGH TOMAR(played by Irrfan Khan). Paan Singh was a gifted athlete, who won Gold Medal at Indian National Games & International Military Games (1967) for Indian Army. After some time the conflict arises between him and his relative who illegally takes over his land. Paan Singh tries every possible way to get his land by approaching his Army Seniors and goes to Police for help, but all in vain. Then after this the movie is all about his revenge against his powerful relatives & system that prompts him to goes to the wrong way of becoming a BAGHI.

The movie is very engaging & characters are real. Every one in this movie even with smaller roles having ones deliver a brilliant performance. I want to mention here, Brijendra Kala (the reporter who interviews Paan Singh) & Nawazuddin (Gopi) especially. If you are interested in reading about them more you can go here(http://www.mumbaimirror.com/index.aspx?page=article&sectid=54&contentid=2012031120120311020758310e001cf4a). Irrfan Khan is undoubtedly the among the best actors of our times. The way film shoot is very impressive. The terrains, landscape are amazing. This movie has equal portion of the lighter, hilarious & serious moments. Irrfan Khan's dialogues, his witty remarks keeps the entertainment quotient of movie well.

'Paan Singh Tomar' is the greatest movie of our times and the best biopic you will see ever on screen. Its a shame for Bollywood that this movie is being released after 2 and 1/2 years of its making. I think 'Paan Singh Tomar' must be viewed by every person who loves sports.

Its a rare opportunity to watch such good performances, such amazing direction and such impressive take on systems inability to act against evil and work for needy ones.

Agneepath Movie Review (2012)

Cast : Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Zarina Wahab, Om Puri
Direction: Karan Malhotra
Genre: Crime, Action, Drama
Running Time: 2 Hours 54 minutes

My first reaction was that they messed up with the original one 1990's Agneepath, which is still a watchable movie after 21 years. But this movie turned into a sheer torture to watch.

The movie starts with the good note and picks up the pace in a very quick manner and then the first half ends. The second half plays the real villain in spoiling the movie.

The story is about the revenge of Vijay Chauhan (Hritik Roshan) that he holds against the Kancha who kills his father a school master at Mandva village. Master urges villagers not to give their land to Kancha on lease by telling the consequences. Kancha kills the Master by trapping him into the false allegations. Here, the story of revenge begins. The movie quickly paces up 15 years and comes into present where Vijay is now right hand the Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor) the biggest enemy of Kancha into the drug market.

The story and plot is simple and basic but the main thing that lacks in the movie is presentation, here the director and writer seems to fail. Screenplay in first half was good that turned out very poor in the second half. Duration is the problem. And there was no need of any songs except chikni chameli. The songs are so much undesirable that i thought Priyanka was forced in the movie.

There is nothing is this movie for those who want to see some good action. Fight sequence are very old that lacks freshness and creativity.

If it comes to acting no one from all of the star cast lets you down. Hritik eyes tells the pain and Vijay's thirst for revenge. Priyanka did decent job as Kaali character. Sanjay Dutt comes as promising as trailer gave us projection. There is nothing much to do for class actor like Om Puri. Arish Bhiwandiwala did a remarkable work as young Vijay Chauhan. The surprise pachage of the movie is, Rauf Lala very impressively played by Rishi Kapoor. Even, sometimes he looked more dangerous than Kancha.

The background music of the movie (given by Ajay- Atul) seems upto the note in the first hour, but after this it begins to annoy like hell.

At the end, Agneepath was long, overcooked & overstreched. And the bad use of melodrama by Dharma Production at million'th time overshadows performances of Hritik and Rishi Kapoor. A big waste of 174 minutes.

My Rating - 4/10
